Lagotto Romagnolo

Origin and character

The Lagotto is an ancient breed with historical roots in the Mediterranean world. His ancestors would have ended up in Italy from the Middle East, where the Lagotto has further developed as a water dog. He was trained to retrieve waterfowl hunted in the swamps.

In addition, and also as a result of the gradual disappearance of many swamps, the Lagotto became specialized as a truffle dog.

This development was therefore translated into a number of morphological characteristics such as construction, manner of movement, nose and behavioral evolution such as working in close contact with his supervisor.
